How Do I Determine My Camera Shutter Speed?

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-IMAQ
Primary Software Version: N/A
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>Full Development System

Problem:
I am setting up my acquisition in LabVIEW and there is an option to set my shutter speed.  It seems to be an arbitrary number though. How do I figure out what to set it to?

Solution:
Most cameras will have instructions within their manuals for setting up the shutter speed.

For example, section 3.2 (page 3-4) of the Basler A602F camera's user manual contains formulas to calculate the shutter speed setting for this camera.  According to this manual, the shutter speed is the camera's time base multiplied by the input shutter value. The time base for this camera is 20us (microseconds).  Therefore, if you set the Shutter Value attribute in MAX to 100 , the corresponding shutter speed would be 100 * 20us = 2000us, or 2ms (milliseconds).
