Windows Cannot Load Drivers Required for this Device Error After Installing Software and Hardware for PCI-485/2

Hardware: Serial>>RS-485

Problem:
After installing the software and hardware for the PCI-485/2 on a Windows 2000 machine, I get the error Windows cannot load drivers required for this device. The COM ports appear in the Device Manager, but with exclamation points next to them. The diagnostic utility from the NI-Serial driver (NIdiag) does not find the board. There are no resource conflicts.

Solution:
The Windows 2000 Registry is having trouble pointing to the NI-Serial driver. To solve the problem, follow these steps:
  1. Shut down your computer and remove your NI serial hardware.

  2. Reboot your computer and uninstall the NI-Serial driver software. Go to Start » Settings » Control Panel » Add/Remove Programs and uninstall NI-Serial.

  3. Reboot your computer once.

  4. Reinstall the NI-Serial driver software. (This provides you with a clean copy of the NI-Serial software on your machine.)

  5. Shut down your computer and reinstall your NI serial hardware.

  6. Reboot your computer. Windows 2000 should now recognize your NI serial hardware and associate it with the NI-Serial driver software.
If these steps do not solve the problem, contact NI technical support for assistance (click the Request Support link in the sidebar of this page).
