Problem:
I have a question regarding manufacturing product using one of the various GPIB ASICs that are deemed RoHS compliant.

Solution:
National Instruments has several GPIB ASICs that are RoHS compliant. For more information on the NI RoHS initiative and specific product plans, visit www.ni.com/environment.

Q: How do I order RoHS-compliant ASICs?
A: National Instruments RoHS-compliant ASICs have an ‘F’ appended to the end of their part numbers. A complete listing of RoHS-compliant orderable kit part numbers is shown here:

Kit Number Package
NAT7210BPDF-9 40DIP
NAT9914BPDF-9 40DIP
NAT9914BPLF-27 44PLCC
NAT9914BPQF-84 44QFP
NAT9914BPQF-1000 44QFP
TNT4882-BQF66 100POFP
TNT5002-AQF24 144PQFP

Q: How do I tell if my GPIB ASIC is RoHS-compliant?
A: RoHS-compliant parts are marked with an e3 inside an ellipse to indicate a pure tin lead finish in accordance with the marking recommendations defined in JEDEC JESD97.

Q: What are the baking requirements for my RoHS compliant GPIB ASIC?
A: The baking requirements are outlined in JEDEC J-STD-033. Refer to the user manual of the appropriate ASIC to determine the thickness of it, and then use this value along with the J-STD-033 document to determine how to bake the ASIC to remove moisture prior to reflow.

Q: What solder reflow temperature profile should I use with National Instruments RoHS-compliant ASICs?
A: National Instruments recommends using the solder reflow profile in shown in IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020C with a peak temperature of 260 °C.

Q: What is the Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) for my RoHS-compliant GPIB ASIC?
A: The IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020C standard defines eight different moisture sensitivity levels for surface mount devices. The MSL for all National Instruments RoHS-compliant surface mount ASICs is 3. The MSL is not applicable to the NAT7210BPDF and NAT9914BPDF through-hole devices.

Q: What is the peak temperature that my RoHS-compliant GPIB ASIC can withstand?
A: The peak temperature that any National Instruments RoHS-compliant ASIC can withstand is 260 °C, with a solder reflow temperature profile in agreement with IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020C.

Q: What is the lead finish used on National Instruments RoHS-compliant ASICs?
A: National Instruments RoHS-compliant ASICs have a matte pure tin finish on their leads.
