Why Do I Get "Engine Error!" in VI Logger When Logged in as a Different User?

Primary Software: Other NI Software>>VI Logger
Primary Software Version: 2.0.1
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I have VI Logger 2.0.1 and I created several VI Logger Tasks under my Administrator account. When other users run the tasks, they get the following error: Engine Error! Error code = -1967362023 (0x8abc7019) Description = Error -1967362023 occured at an unidentified location. Possible reason(s): IAK_SHARED: (Hex 0x8ABC7019) Access denied. Why do they recieve this error?

Solution:
Any user that uses a VI Logger Task must have write access to the VI Logger Database. Any user that uses a VI Logger Task must have write access to the VI Logger Database. Any user that uses a VI Logger Task must have write access to the VI Logger Database. The default database could be located in any of these two locations:

C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\Tagger\database

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\VI Logger.

Most users won't have write access to this folder. You need to enable write access to this folder for all users. To do this, follow the following steps:

  1. Open a Windows Explorer window and select the menu Tools»Folder Options
  2. Check the last option called Use Simple File Sharing as the following image.

  1. Find the database folder. If you cannot find it, you might need to show the hidden folders.
  2. Right click over the folder and select Sharing and Security. On the Security tab add the user(s) you would like to have access to the database.
  3. Make sure you check Full Access to the user. The following image is an example.

With VI Logger Full, you can create a new databases where all users have read and write access. You do not have the ability to create/manage databases in VI Logger Lite, so you will need to upgrade to VI Logger Full if you wanted to use this solution. You may also get this error:

You can fix this error with VI Logger Full by creating a new database, setting it as the default database, browse to the folder that you chose where the database is stored, and change the permissions to allow read/write for all users. You can then create tasks as either the Administrator or the User and they will function properly.
