MATRIXx Help Gives Error - Unable to Connect to Netscape

Primary Software: MATRIXx
Primary Software Version: 7.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software:

Problem: When I run the help command in XMath it gives an error "Unable to Connect to Netscape". I have Netscape installed and I am able to use it to view web pages. What could be wrong?

Solution: If you have Netscape installed and still get this error, it may be due to the version of Netscape. For MATRIXx 7.0 you need to have Netscape 3.0.1 or later, however the help command may not recognize the newest versions of Netscape. Try one of the following:
  • Install an older version of Netscape. Old versions of Netscape are available on many download sites.

  • Do not use the help command in XMath. Instead open the help file directly in your web browser. Use the path file:///%MATRIXX%/xmath/help/help.html where %MATRIXX% is the directory where you have MATRIXx installed. Once you have the help file open you can use the index to find the topic you are looking for.

  • In Windows use the help shortcut for MATRIXx that is on the Start Menu.

MATRIXx 6.3 now uses Internet Explorer instead of Netscape to access the help. When you type help in Xmath it will bring up Internet Explorer with the correct help page. See www.ni.com/matrixx for more details.
