Accessing General Purpose Digital I/O Lines of NuDrive with Motion Controller Board Hardware: Motion Control>>Power Drives>>nuDrive-CX, Motion Control>>Power Drives>>nuDrive-SX
Problem: I would like to be able to use the eight general purpose digital i/o lines available on my NuDrive motor drive. How can I access those lines? Solution: The NuDrive SX- and CX-series motor drives were originally designed to work in conjunction with the ValueMotion line of motion controllers while the CF-series of motor drives is FlexMotion-compatible. In order to access the digital i/o lines on the drive, you'd have to be using the corresponding motion controller. For an SX- or CX-series drive, you'd need to be connected to the drive with a ValueMotion board. And for the CF-series drive, you'd need to be connected to the drive with a FlexMotion controller. As per the NuDrive Manual linked below, you connect a 733x, 734x, and 735x to the SX- or CX-series drive, even though those boards are not generally associated with the ValueMotion line of boards. This is due entirely to connector compatibility. The FlexMotion boards as well as the newer 733x, 734x, and 735x lines of motion controllers do not offer a way to write to/read from those lines on the CX and SX NuDrives (referenced on pages 13-14 of linked NuDrive manual). If some general purpose digital i/o is needed, the digital lines offered through the separate digital i/o connector on these boards would be the best solution.
