A Pre-Release Version of Measurement Studio Shipped with the 2008 Q4 Developer Suite

Primary Software: Measurement Studio>>Enterprise Edition (Full Development System)
Primary Software Version: 8.6
Primary Software Fixed Version: 8.6
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
The 2008 fourth quarter Developer Suite DVD shipped with a pre-release, unapproved version of Measurement Studio. How do I know if this affects me, what does this mean, and how can I upgrade to the officially released and approved version?

Solution:
The 2008 fourth quarter Developer Suite DVD shipped with Measurement Studio version number 8.6.0.165. The approved version is 8.6.0.189. To see if you are affected, open Visual Studio, and select Measurement Studio»About Measurement Studio. If the version entry reads 8.6.0.165, your version of Measurement Studio is the unapproved version.

National Instruments strongly recommends that you uninstall the unapproved version of Measurement Studio and install the approved version from either the 2009 Q1 Developer Suite DVD or from a standalone installer. If you do not have access to this media, go to ni.com/info and enter info code “Q1CVIMS” to request a CD shipment.

Note: If you have installed the National Instruments Driver DVD, you do not need to re-install the Driver DVD after installing the approved version of Measurement Studio.

The following is a detailed description of the differences between the approved and unapproved versions:

Some Measurement Studio 8.6 New Features Are Incomplete
  • The TDMS .NET API is missing convenience methods that allow you to add channel groups, channels, and properties without accessing the collections containing these objects.
  • The TdmsFile constructor throws an exception with an empty message when an invalid path is specified.
  • The Help button on the Visual C++ Upgrade Wizard dialog box does not work in Visual Studio 2008.
A New Bug Was Introduced in the Q4 Developer Suite version of Measurement Studio
  • The waveform graph throws an exception when plotting an AnalogWaveform if both of the following conditions are true:
    • The AnalogWaveform has regular timing, no timestamp, and does not use PrecisionTiming .
    • The data is plotted versus time as opposed to versus sample number.
Some Bugs in Previous Versions Remain Unfixed
  • Bug ID - 124985 Measurement Studio .NET support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 does not install the CWUI_OCX merge module, which is needed to deploy .NET applications that use the DataSocket class library. You can contact National Instruments support to obtain this merge module.
  • Bug ID - 125378 Measurement Studio .NET graph controls do not display the axis range edit text box when the graph control is on a Windows Form with its TopMost property set to true. Despite the display issue, you can still enter and commit a value.
Some Example Programs Are Beta Quality
  • The TDMS examples are missing significant enhancements.
  • A small subset of other examples are missing very minor enhancements.
Some Documentation is Beta Quality
  • Incomplete documentation for new features.
  • Missing minor updates for existing features.
  • Incomplete information in the Readme, including installation requirements and instructions, Driver DVD instructions, What's New content, and the Fixed Bug and Known Issues lists.
  • Incomplete information in the Release Notes.

National Instruments is taking this issue very seriously, and has set new safeguards in place to prevent it from recurring.

If you have any questions, please contact National Instruments support.
