Instrument Environmental Altitude and Temperature Specifications

Hardware: Multifunction DAQ (MIO)

Problem:
In the Detailed Specifications document for my NI device, it says in the Environmental section that the device should not be used at an altitude above 2000 meters and should only be used in a temperature range of 0 to 55 degrees Celsius. Where are these specifications derived from?

Solution:
The test and measurement product safety standard (IEC 61010-1) limits use to 2000 meters in typical environments. The standard also has a minimum operating temperature range of 0-40 Celsius. We are allowed to go above this temperature range, such as 55 Celsius, if the product passes safety tests for touchable surfaces, components, etc. We cannot guarantee our products are safe outside these specifications.
