Problem:
Which versions of LabVIEW PDA require registration and what are some of the limitations when programming with unregistered versions?

Solution:
LabVIEW PDA 8.2

LabVIEW PDA 8.2 can be run on a "trial" basis, with some major restrictions. To be fully functional, it requires a Serial Number and Activation.

If you would like to try LabVIEW PDA 8.2, you may choose not to enter a Serial Number and select "Install this product for evaluation" - Please see "LabVIEW PDA 8.0 - Install without registration.jpg" (The screen for 8.2 is the same as for 8.0). The PDA software will fully install, but has the caveats below. Please note these are different from PDA 8.0

By installing the trial version, you will be asked to register the PDA module every time LabVIEW starts - Please see "LabVIEW PDA 8.2 - Use 30 Day Trial.jpg". If you would like to continue using LabVIEW or LabVIEW PDA 8.0 on a trial basis, you may click "Begin Evaluation" and continue on without registration.

If you hit "Cancel", you will not be allowed to deploy VI's to the PDA like you are able to in "Evaluation" mode.

Using the trial version allows the making of projects, PDA VI's, and builds.
The trial version of LabVIEW PDA 8.2 gives full functionality, including emulation and deployment of VI's to a PDA. The caveat is that there is a time limit on how long the program will run on the PDA or Emulator before getting a timeout error and stopping - Please see "LabVIEW PDA 8.2 - PDA Program Timeout.jpg". There may be other caveats, as this is not a comprehensive list.

LabVIEW PDA 8.0

LabVIEW PDA 8.0 can be run on a "trial" basis, with some major restrictions. To be fully functional, it requires a Serial Number and Activation.

If you would like to try LabVIEW PDA 8.0, you may choose not to enter a Serial Number and select "Install this product for evaluation" - Please see "LabVIEW PDA 8.0 - Install without registration.jpg". The PDA software will fully install, but has the caveats below.

By installing the trial version, you will be asked to register the PDA module every time LabVIEW starts - Please see "LabVIEW PDA 8.0 - Ask for Registration.jpg". If you would like to continue using LabVIEW or LabVIEW PDA 8.0 on a trial basis, you may click "Cancel" and continue on without registration.
Using the trial version allows the making of projects, PDA VI's, and builds.
The trial version does not allow the VI's to run, does not allow the emulation of a device, and does not allow the deployment of a build. Even though you are allowed to make a build, it will ask you to register when you try to deploy the build.

LabVIEW PDA 7.1

LabVIEW PDA 7.1 can be run on a "trial" basis, with some major restrictions. To be fully functional, it requires a Serial Number and Activation.

If you would like to try LabVIEW PDA 7.1, you may choose not to enter a Serial Number and press the "Next" button during installation - Please see "LabVIEW PDA 7.1 - Registration Screen 1.jpg". You will then need to hit "cancel" to proceed with the installation of LabVIEW PDA 7.1 as a trial version.

By installing the trial version, you will be able to create and program VI's and run them on your desktop computer. When you "Switch Target Devices" is when problems will occur. You will not be allowed to run the VI on the target PDA unless LabVIEW PDA 7.1 is registered.
