FieldPoint Controller on Different Subnet does not Show Up in MAXHardware: FieldPoint>>Controllers/Network Modules
Problem: A FieldPoint controller configured on a different subnet than the host PC does not show up in MAX. How can I configure the device to be recognized by my host PC? Solution: Because the FieldPoint controller will be on a remote subnet, it will not be automatically detected by the host PC. Thus, a static IP address should be designated and assigned to the FieldPoint controller. In order to configure the FieldPoint controller, you must first be able to access the controller settings. To do this, temporarily connect the FieldPoint controller to the local network of the host PC. MAX should auto-detect the controller and assign an IP address of 0.0.0.0. Change this IP address to the designated static IP address and click Apply. (Refer to the user manual for your FieldPoint controller for a detailed description of this procedure). At this point, the controller should disappear from the display in MAX because its new IP address places it on the remote subnet. Now with the controller connected on the remote subnet of the network, it can be manually added to MAX. To do this, right click the Remote Systems and Create New to create a FieldPoint Ethernet device. Specify the static IP address assigned to the controller and add the device. The controller should now show up in MAX even as it exists on the remote subnet. NOTE: Restart MAX if the controller does not show up immediately. These instructions assume that the host PC and the controller can communicate free of firewall settings between subnets. In order for communication to be successful between the two devices, the appropriate ports must be open between the two subnets. An IT specialist should be able to configure the network settings to accommodate for this requirement. To test whether or not the devices can communicate, ping the controller from the host PC.
