NI-CAN Test Panels Display Error Messages About cwui.ocx

Problem:
I am trying to view the test panels for my NI-CAN Channels, but I receive error messages stating that I am using an evaluation version of cwui.ocx, or that my version of cwui.ocx is too old. How can I use my NI-CAN test panels?

Solution:
This error can be displayed if an old version of the cwui.ocx file is registered with Windows. This could occur if an older version has been installed with another application, or is present due to an old installation of Measurement Studio. To verify that this is the cause of the problem, you should search your entire hard drive for files named cwui.ocx.

If more than one instance of cwui.ocx is found, follow the steps below to ensure that the proper version is registered with Windows:

  1. Right-Click on each copy of the file and view the properties. Record the version of each copy of the file.

  2. Record the path to the most recent version of the file. This will normally be located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

  3. Open a Command Prompt Window, which is available on the Start Menu at Programs» Accessories» Command Prompt

  4. At the command prompt, unregister cwui.ocx by running the following command at the command prompt:
             regsvr32 /u cwui.ocx

  5. At the command prompt, register the most recent version of the file using the following command, substituting the path from step two if different from below:
             regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\cwui.ocx

  6. Try using the NI-CAN Test Panels. At this point you should no longer see the error messages regarding the cwui.ocx file.
