ER-16 Not Powering On Hardware: Switches>>General-Purpose>>ER-16
Problem: The ER-16's red power up LED is not turning on and it is not appearing in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). Why won't the power LED turn on? Solution: The ER-16 has two power configurations based on whether a 32 or 24 channel DIO (Digital Input/Ouput) device is connected to it. Verify that your setup is correct based on your DIO device. Using the ER-16 with a DIO-24 device The National Instruments DIO device, through the connecting cable, can provide enough power to drive the ER-16 box. In order to configure the ER-16 for a DIO-24 device the power selector switch SW1 must be set to INT and the cable must be plugged into the lower of the two front connectors. Using the ER-16 with a DIO-32 device The ER-16 cannot supply enough power for all 32 channels of a DIO-32 device; therefore, an external power supply is required for operation. In addition, the power selector switch SW1 must be set to EXT and the cable must be plugged into the upper of the two front connectors. Note: Connecting the cable to the wrong front connector can damage the ER-16 or your data acquistion device. Verifying communication with the ER-16 If the ER-16 is configured correctly the power LED should now be on and it should appear in MAX. To test the communication with the ER-16 you can write a digital 1 to port A (0) without any connections to the screw terminals. Writing a digital 1 to port A(0) should turn the DS1 LED to green, which verifies that the device is working correctly. For further troubleshooting steps consult Chapter 2 of the ER-8/16 User Manual.
