Problem: I have not installed the LabVIEW VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1.1. Can I still access the readme files?

Solution: The LabVIEW VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1.1 readme file is attached and appears below, The readme files also are located on the LabVIEW 8.6 Platform DVD and installed in the labview\readme directory on Windows. The readme file contains important last-minute information about the LabVIEW VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1.1, including installation information.

This file contains important last-minute information about the LabVIEW VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1.1, including installation issues.

Refer to the LabVIEW Module and Toolkit Compatibility Information page on ni.com for information about which version of the VI Analyzer Toolkit to install depending on your LabVIEW version and operating system. All versions of the toolkit are available on the installation CD.

Installation

Version 1.1.1 with LabVIEW 8.6

VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1.1 is compatible with LabVIEW 8.6 on Windows. If you want to use the VI Analyzer Toolkit on Mac OS X or Linux, you must install VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1. Refer to the Version 1.1 for LabVIEW 8.x section for information about installing VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1.

(Windows Vista/XP/2000) You can install all of your LabVIEW products—including LabVIEW and the VI Analyzer Toolkit—using the LabVIEW 8.6 Platform DVDs. Refer to the LabVIEW DVD Installation Instructions or the LabVIEW Release Notes, which are available in your LabVIEW box, for information about the LabVIEW Platform DVDs.

Complete the following steps to install the VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1.1 for Windows from the LabVIEW VI Analyzer Toolkit installation CD.

Note  Some virus detection programs interfere with the installer. Disable any automatic virus detection programs before you install. After installation, check your computer for viruses and enable any virus detection programs you disabled.

  1. Log on as an administrator or as a user with administrator privileges.
  2. Insert the LabVIEW VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1.1 installation CD and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
  3. Activate your LabVIEW products using the NI License Manager.

Version 1.1 for LabVIEW 8.x

You must install VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1 to work with LabVIEW 8.0, 8.2, or 8.5 on Windows. You must install VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1 to work with LabVIEW 8.0, 8.2, 8.5, or 8.6 on Mac OS X or Linux.

(Windows Vista/XP/2000) Complete the following steps to install the VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1 for Windows.

Note  Some virus detection programs interfere with the installer. Disable any automatic virus detection programs before you install. After installation, check your computer for viruses and enable any virus detection programs you disabled.

  1. Log on as an administrator or as a user with administrator privileges.
  2. Insert the LabVIEW VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1.1 installation CD and browse to the LabVIEW_8.0-8.5\Windows directory.
  3. Double-click setup.exe and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

(Mac OS X) Complete the following steps to install the VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1 for Mac OS X.

Note  Some virus detection programs interfere with the installer. Disable any automatic virus detection programs before you install. After installation, check your computer for viruses and enable any virus detection programs you disabled.

  1. Insert and browse to the LabVIEW VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1 installation CD and open VI_Analyzer1.1.pkg located under the LabVIEW_8.0-8.5\Mac OS X directory.
  2. Select Continue to run a program to determine if the VI Analyzer Toolkit can be installed on your system.
  3. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen and continue to the Select Destination dialog box.
  4. In the Select Destination dialog box, click Choose and select the version of LabVIEW (8.0 or later) you want to install the VI Analyzer to.

Note  You must select the Choose button for a proper installation. If you do not select a location where LabVIEW is installed or you select a non-compatible version of LabVIEW, the installation will not complete.

  1. After you select the destination directory, click Continue to complete the installation.

Complete the following steps to uninstall the VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1 for Mac OS X.

  1. During installation, the VI_Analyzer_Uninstall.sh uninstallation script is created in the same folder as your version of LabVIEW.
  2. Drag the uninstall script to the prompt in a Terminal Window. Press Return and follow the instructions provided by the script.
  3. After uninstalling the VI Analyzer Toolkit, you must manually delete the uninstallation script.

(Linux) Complete the following steps to install the VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1 for Linux.

  1. Log into the system as root.
  2. Use mount /mnt/cdrom to mount the CD. On some systems, the CD is mounted automatically.
  3. Enter the following command to navigate to the LabVIEW directory:
    cd /usr/local/natinst/LabVIEW-8.0

Note  The preceding command assumes that you installed LabVIEW 8.0. Modify the version if you installed a different version of LabVIEW.

  1. Enter the following command to extract the toolkit to the LabVIEW folder:
    tar xvf /mnt/cdrom/LabVIEW_8.0-8.5/Linux/VIAnalyzer1_1Linux.tar
  2. Enter the following command to navigate to the Example Finder directory:
    cd "/usr/local/natinst/share/example finder/1.0"
  3. Enter the following command to extract the Example Finder files:
    tar xvf /mnt/cdrom/LabVIEW_8.0-8.5/Linux/VIAn1_1ExFndrLinux.tar

Version 1.0 for LabVIEW 7.x

You must install VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.0 to work with LabVIEW 7.x. The installation process for version 1.0 is very similar to the process for version 1.1 except that you launch the installer from the appropriate OS directory under the LabVIEW_7.x directory of your CD.

Using the VI Analyzer Toolkit

After you install the VI Analyzer Toolkit, select Tools»VI Analyzer»Analyze VIs to run the VI Analyzer. You also can use the VI Analyzer VIs located on the Functions palette. Refer to the LabVIEW Help and the LabVIEW VI Analyzer Toolkit User Guide for more information about using the VI Analyzer Toolkit.

Changes from Version 1.1 to 1.1.1 (Windows)

  • The VI Analyzer functionality is now available in LabVIEW if you install and activate an add-on that contains VI Analyzer tests.
  • With the VI Analyzer Toolkit 1.1, you can make VIs you write with the VI Analyzer VIs easily accessible from two locations:
    • Accessible from the Tools»VI Analyzer»Quick Launch menu—Copy the VI to the labview\project\VI Analyzer\Quick Launch directory
    • Visible in the VI Analyzer user interface—Copy the VIs to the labview\project\VI Analyzer\_tests directory
    These paths have changed in version 1.1.1:
    • Accessible from the Tools»VI Analyzer»Quick Launch menu—Copy the VI to the labview\project\_VI Analyzer\Quick Launch directory
    • Visible in the VI Analyzer user interface—Copy the VIs to the labview\project\_VI Analyzer\_tests directory
