Problem: What is National Instruments Volume License Manager, and how can I use it?
Solution: NI Volume License Manager is a free tool used to manage licenses purchased through a volume license agreement. You can download NI Volume License Manager, but you will still need a volume license file in order to use the tool. See the help installed with NI VLM for instructions on how to obtain your volume license file.
New features for VLM 2.1 include:
- Customize and Require User/Computer Fields - You can now customize the User/Computer fields to fit your organization. For example you can remove the Comment Field, change the Cost Center field to "Cost Code", and add any number of new fields. Furthermore, these fields can be marked required, which means that someone running a network installer must fill in that field's information to complete the installation.
- Create a Usage Log - We now save every successful checkout and checkin of software by end-users in an tab-delimited file. This file can then be imported into a spreadsheet program for analysis.
- Export User and Computer Information - You can easily export the information from NI VLM into either a tab-delimited or XML file. This information includes users, computers, and assigned permissions.
- Create Multiple Disconnected License Files - You can select multiple computers and disconnect/reconnect those computers at one time.
- Create Multiple Network Installers - We have revamped the create network installer process so that you only need to walk through the dialogs a single time for each distribution. We have also minimized the footprint of the network installers by having only one copy of each product stored on the server as part of the network installer.
