Problem: What is the small black component that shipped with the 5B-32 module? Solution: This component is a 20 ohm current resistor for converting the input process current to a voltage. The component is black and plugs directly into the backplane just behind the 5B-32 Module (between the module and the screw terminals). There are two different versions of this current resistor because there are two different manufacturers of the 5B product line: Analog Devices and Dataforth. NI only resells these products. While the 5B products available from each manufacturer are functionally identical, there is a design difference between the 5B Backplanes that necessitates two different current resistors:
