Creating an Executable with the LabVIEW SQL Toolkit

Primary Software: LabVIEW Toolkits>>Enterprise Connectivity Toolset
Primary Software Version: 1.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem: Steps for creating an executable that uses the SQL Toolkit

Solution: The SQL Toolkit VIs have been incorporated into LabVIEW's Database Connectivity Toolset. The steps listed below only pertain to the SQL Toolkit. For information on building executables with the Database Connectivity Toolset, please refer to KnowledgeBase 2SJG16HM (linked below). For information on upgrading to the Database Connectivity Toolset, please visit the Upgrade Advisor.

To create a LabVIEW executable that uses the SQL Toolkit VIs, complete the following steps:

  1. Build an executable of your LabVIEW VI and create a distribution kit for it. Please follow the steps given in KnowledgeBase 15BGNO05 (linked below) to create a distribution kit.

  2. Install the executable on the target machine.

  3. Install the SQL Toolkit on the Target Machine.

Note: If you are distributing ODBC database driver files that ship with the SQL Toolkit, then you must purchase the appropriate run-time license (to allow distribution of single or multiple database drivers).

  4. Install the SQL Toolkit/Run-time Version by starting Setup.exe and choosing Expert Install. Use the following installation settings:

    • Deselect the SQL Toolkit VI Libraries and Application Examples.
    • Select the ODBC Administrator and ODBC Driver Help Files.
    • If you are installing the Run-time Version with drivers, deselect the ODBC Drivers option to expand the list of drivers available. Select only those drivers that are needed for your application.
    • If your application does not use drivers that ship with the SQL Toolkit, deselect the ODBC Drivers option.
      Finish the installation.

Note: The SQL Toolkit 2.0 will not complete the installation without locating the LabVIEW.exe file. If you encounter this problem, create a file named LabVIEW.exe in the target directory of your application. Once the toolkit is installed, this file can be deleted. (This has been fixed in the version 5.0 of the toolkit, released with LabVIEW 5.0.)

  5. Install any other database drivers that may be needed by the application.

  6. Configure the ODBC Administrator and add the necessary Data Source Names used by the application to the ODBC Administrator.

  7. Run the application.
Note: If the application does not include licensed drivers from the Toolkit, then it is possible to distribute the necessary files for the ODBC Administrator and interface drivers along with the application. Please refer to KnowledgeBase 12SBLBWV (linked below) for a list of the DLLs that need to be installed in the Windows/System directory.
