PXI-823x Ethernet Communication Specifications

Problem: I need more detail about the ethernet communication abilities of the PXI-8231/8232. Can you provide more specific info about transmission speeds? Can the card use the CSMA/CD protocol?

Solution:
Here is a more detailed list of the ethernet communication abilities of the PXI-823x cards:

  • 10 Mb/s half-duplex, 20 Mb/s full-duplex in 10BaseT.

  • 100 Mb/s half-duplex, 200 Mb/s full-duplex in 100BaseTX.

  • 1000 Mb/s half-duplex, 2000 Mb/s full-duplex in 1000BaseT . [Note: The 8231/8232 cannot be manually set for 1000Mb/s half-duplex. It will work at 1000 Mb/s half-duplex if another link partner is running at that speed]

  • Can use the CSMA/CD protocol in half-duplex operation.

Please note that saying 20, 200, and 2000 Mb/s for the full-duplex modes is misleading. The device cannot transfer more than 10, 100, and 1000 Mb/s in either direction in these modes. The spec is adding the transfer speeds for both sending and receiving data.
