How Do I Determine if LabVIEW Real-Time RTX or ETS is Installed?
Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers
Problem: I have an desktop PC running LabVIEW Real-Time. How can I tell if it is ETS or RTX?
Solution: In LabVIEW 7.x and previous versions:
- Start LabVIEW.
- Select Help»About LabVIEW Real-Time Module.
- The window that is displayed will show the type of LabVIEW Real-Time that you are running (ETS or RTX). See figure 1 for an example of a machine that has ETS installed.

Figure 1: About LabVIEW Real-Time Window
Note: If you don't have LabVIEW Real-Time installed, then you will not have the About LabVIEW Real-Time Module option on the Help menu. If you do have the LabVIEW Real-Time module installed, then you will see a stop watch in the lower left corner of the About LabVIEW window also found on the Help menu.
In LabVIEW 8.0 and LabVIEW 8.2:
- Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the labview\Targets\NI\RT directory.
- In the directories listed, look for an RTX or ETS directory. Whichever is listed is the type of module installed on your machine. See figure 2 for an example of a machine that has RTX installed.

Note: RTX was not sold or supported for versions later than LabVIEW 8.2. If you are using LabVIEW 8.2.1 or later, you do not have RTX.
