How do I Create a Home License from an Existing User in NI Volume License Manager?

Primary Software: NI Volume License Manager
Primary Software Version: 2.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I would like to create a home license with NI Volume License Manager. I already have added a user and have granted him/her the appropriate permissions. How do I create the home license file?

Solution:
Before you begin, ensure that you have copied down the Computer ID of the home machine which will receive the license file.  This is required in order to generate the license file.

To create the license file:

For NI VLM 2.1.1:
  1. Expand the User node, right-click the user for whom you would like to create a home license, and select Create Home License....

  2. Enter the Computer ID for the home machine that will receive the license.  Select the expiration date for the license, then click OK.

  3. Save the home license file.

For NI VLM 3.0:

  1. Navigate to the Computers tab and select the computer for which you would like to create the home license file.
  2. Click Create Home License in the left-hand column.  This will bring up the Home License Wizard.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Input the Computer ID of your home machine into the blank next to Home Computer ID.  You can get this identification key through NI License Manager on the home machine.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Select a directory in which to save the home license file and/or input an email address if you would like the license file to be mailed to you.  If you would like the license to be sent via email, make sure you configure your email options under Tools » Preferences.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select an expiration date for the license file, or set it to Never Expire.  Click Create.
  9. Click Finish.
Note: The procedure for creating a home license file is documented in the NI Volume License Manager 3.0 Help file.

You now have a home license file that can be installed through NI License Manager on the home machine.

Follow the steps in KnowledgeBase 33JDS71F: After I Create a Disconnected or Home License from NI Volume License Manager, How do I Use It? to install your home license file.

Note: Home license files do not use any available permissions within NI VLM.
