Serial Communication Using a Compact Vision System (CVS)

Problem:
What software do I need to perform serial communication between my Compact Vision System (CVS) and another serial device?

Solution:
To perform serial communication using the Compact Vision System (CVS), you need to have NI-Serial RT installed on your CVS.  To install NI-Serial RT onto the Compact Vision System, you should first download the latest version of NI-Serial onto your host PC.  Then, you should open the Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and transfer the NI-Serial RT software from your host PC to the CVS target using the following procedure:
  1. Expand Remote Systems by clicking the plus (+) sign next to Remote Systems 
  2. Expand your CVS by clicking the plus (+) sign next to the name of your CVS
  3. Right-click on Software
  4. Select Add/Remove Programs to call up the LabVIEW Real-Time Software Wizard
  5. Click the box next to NI-Serial RT and select "Install the feature"
  6. Click Next and proceed through the Wizard to install the new software
