Booting up on Windows XPe causes Blue Screen

Problem:
I recently installed some NI Driver Software on Windows Embedded OS. The computer blue screens after reboot. The error message is "irql_not_less_or_equal". What can I do to fix it?

Solution:
There is a known compatibility issue involving nipbcf filter driver and the mass storage filter driver on Windows Embedded.

To work around the issue, one needs to change the order of those two drivers are loaded. By default, nipbcf filter is loaded first. To change that, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Go to Start»Run.
  2. Enter regedit and click OK.
  3. Locate the registry key "Group" in the directory below.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nipbcfk\
  4. Change the value from "System Reserved" to "System Bus Extender".

Now nipbcf should load after the mass storage filter driver. If you are unable to use regedit, you may need to copy the regedit program to the OS.
