Using an External Transceiver with a National Instruments CAN Board

Hardware: Industrial Communications>>CAN

Problem:
I have an external transceiver on my CAN network, and I want to use it with my NI-CAN board. How do I do this?

Solution:
The only National Instruments CAN boards that support using external transceivers are the PCI-CAN/XS and PXI-8464 boards. To use the external transceiver, connect it to the CAN port on your board, and configure the port as follows:
  1. Open Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), and expand the "Devices and Interfaces" entry
  2. Expand the entry for your CAN board, and right-click on the port that has the external transceiver connected to it
  3. Click on "Properties", select "External" from the "Transceiver" drop-down menu, and click OK.
Now, your CAN applications will bypass the transceiver on the CAN board, and use your external transceiver instead.
