Why Do I Get "Invalid Image Type Not Supported By This Step" in Vision Builder for Automated Inspection?

Problem:
I am using Vision Builder for Automated Inspection (VBAI) to process (edge detection, etc) an image. When I try to add a step such as Measure Intensity or Find Edges, I receive an error that states Invalid Image Type: The type of image acquired is not supported by this step. I am using an image type supported by Vision such as .BMP or .PNG. Why is this not working?

Solution:
Although your image may appear to be monochrome, it may actually be stored as a color image. In order to carry out operations such as intensity or edge detection, it is necessary to operate on a single color plane.

In order to use this image, follow these steps to convert your color image to grayscale:

  1. Click on the icon for Enhance Images
  2. Select Image Assistant
  3. Select Color » Extract Color Planes
  4. Select HSL-Luminace Plane and click OK
  5. You will now be able to process the image in VBAI
