When do I Use the Checkbox 'Apply Changes to All Loaded Steps'?Primary Software: TestStandPrimary Software Version: 2.0.1 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software:
Problem: When creating and editing my custom step type I noticed that sometimes I need to enable this checkbox in order for my changes to propagate, but at other times, I don't. Why does this happen and when do I need to enable this property to get the changes I want? Solution: The 'Apply Changes to All Loaded Steps' option can best be understood by considering your step type as two groups of components. When working with your properties, you have some options that will effect every step of your customized type, such as the code template and menu position. There are also options that are just the default settings for any generic step but can be controlled by your type, such as Run Options or Expressions. In the case of type specific values, all steps that use your type will be automatically updated when you make a change. When you alter something such as 'Ignore Run time error' in your step type, however, steps already created with your type won't automatically notice the change; only new steps you create after editing the type properties will see it. In this case, you would want to enable the checkbox for 'Apply Changes to All Loaded Steps' when editing your type. In general, to know which properties are automatically shared and which are not shared, look for the word 'Default' as part of the property tab's name. If you are changing a default property, you will need to enable 'Apply Changes...'. Otherwise, TestStand should take care of propagating changes for you. For more information about step type properties, or customizing steps in general refer to the User Manual's chapter on Types.
