Why Does My USB DAQ Module Get the "Unable to Locate a Driver" Error? Problem: I just purchased a USB DAQ module (9211 or 9215) and installed NI-DAQmx on my Windows computer. When I plug in my new USB module I get an error, "Windows was unable to locate a driver for this device." What do I do? Solution: Most C Series modules work with NI-DAQmx running on Windows. The two exceptions are the NI-USB-9211 and the NI-USB-9215. If you are purchasing multiple modules, you will notice that the NI-USB-9221 or the NI-USB-9201 use the Hi-Speed USB carrier 9162. The NI-USB-9211 and the NI-USB-9215 use the USB carrier 9161. The difference between the USB carriers 9161 and 9162 is that the 9161 works only with NI-DAQmx Base 2.2 or older (more information on this in KB 49U8ARB9) and will not be recognized by DAQmx. If you install DAQmx Base on your Windows machine, the NI-USB-9211 and NI-USB-9215 will be detected. If you are a Windows user and you want to program your device in DAQmx, be sure to purchase the NI-USB-9211A or the NI-USB-9215A. Those devices include the Hi-Speed USB carrier 9162 and can be used with DAQmx. Related Links: KB 49U8ARB9: What is the difference between the USB-9211 (USB-9215) and the USB-9211A (USB-9215A)?
