Problem: My National Instruments software application made in LabWindows/CVI, TestStand, or DIAdem suddenly stops running when NI Volume License Manager (NI VLM) is inaccessible after approximately 12 minutes. Any active instance of these software applications will immediately stop running and shut down without a warning. This only affects the LabWindows/CVI development environment and not the LabWindows/CVI Run-time engine. All instances of TestStand and DIAdem are affected. Solution: There are patched versions of the affected application software programs which are necessary for customers who use NI Volume License Manager to serve licenses. This behavior is only exhibited if NI Volume License Manager is inaccessible for more than 12 consecutive minutes due to network problems or the server being shut down. In this time, active instances of those software packages are unable to authenticate their license. As a result, any active instance of these application software programs will immediately stop running and shut down without a warning. In order to prevent this from occurring, you must install the necessary patch on any computer that runs the affected client software programs. Computers which are not licensed through NI Volume License Manager or computers which use disconnected licenses issued by the NI Volume License Manager do not require this patch. If you foresee that your network or NI Volume License Manager will be regularly inaccessible for an extended amount of time from certain client computers, consider generating disconnected license files from NI Volume License Manager for those client computers.
