Can I Enable Dithering On a 16-bit E Series DAQ Device?Hardware: Legacy DAQ Devices>>Multifunction DAQ>>AT-MIO-16XE-10
Problem: I am trying to enable dithering on my 16-bit E Series DAQ device using either MIO Configure.vi (LabVIEW) or the MIO_Config function (LabWindows/CVI). However, when I use these functions, I get error -10403 (Traditional NI-DAQ) or error -200077 (NI-DAQmx). Solution: Dithering is the addition of Gaussian noise to an analog input signal. The purpose of MIO Configure.vi and the MIO_Config function is to turn dithering on and off on 12-bit E Series devices, Lab devices (except the Lab-PC+), and 1200 Series devices. For devices with 64 channels, the MIO_Config function also lets you specify whether to use AMUX-64T channels or onboard channels. 16-bit E Series devices do not have external dither circuitry. For this reason, using MIO Configure.vi or the MIO_Config function with these devices will generate "the specified device does not support the requested action" errors. The A/D converter (ADC) and the programmable-gain instrumentation amplifier (PGIA) of 16-bit E Series devices generate a noise level that is equivalent to always having a dither circuit enabled. For more information on using MIO Configure.vi or other LabVIEW VI's and functions, refer to the VI, Function, and How-To Help which can be found by opening a new LabVIEW VI and going to Help » VI, Function, and How-To Help. For more information on using MIO_Config or other LabWindows/CVI functions, refer to the NI-DAQ Help (for NI-DAQ version 6.7 or later) which can be found by selecting Start » Programs » National Instruments » NI-DAQ » Traditional NI-DAQ Function Reference Help.
