Requirements for Performing DAQ with a PDA or Other Mobile Device
Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Mobile Module
Primary Software Version: 8.6
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: What software do I need to perform data acquisition on a PDA or other mobile device?
Solution: In order to be able to communicate and program a VI to run on a PDA, you must have LabVIEW and the
LabVIEW Mobile Module installed. This software allows you to create data acquisition executables that can be deployed to and run on the PDA.
In addition, the hardware that you use needs to conform to the following requirements:
- The mobile device must be supported by the LabVIEW Mobile Module. This is dependent on the Operating System of the device. Depending on what version of LabVIEW you are using, there is support for Palm OS, PocketPC 2003, and/or Windows Mobile 5.0. While the Mobile Module supports Windows Mobile 6.0, currently data acquisition cannot be done on this Operating System since there is no support by the DAQmx Base Driver. See LabVIEW Mobile Module Software Requirements and Supported Devices for more information on your specific version.
- The National Instruments data acquisition device must be supported by the NI-DAQmx Base driver and the Mobile Module LabVIEW API. A list of these supported devices can be found in the NI-DAQmx Base 3.2 Readme.
- An interface on your mobile device appropriate for your type of data acquisition device. Supported interfaces include USB, CompactFlash, or PCMCIA. If your data acquisition device uses USB, be sure that your mobile device has a USB host port. National Instruments USB data acquisition devices require USB host ports and will not function when connected to USB client ports. Documentation for your mobile device should tell you what type of USB port your device has.
