What Is The TIC Chip On VXI Controller And How Can I Use It? Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-VXI/VISAPrimary Software Version: 3.4 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A Hardware: VXI/VME/MXI>>VXI Interfaces
Problem: I read some VXI literature that suggests there is a TIC ASIC on VXI controllers. What is it and how can I use it? Solution: The TIC, Trigger Interface Chip, is designed to enhance the user’s ability beyond the VXIbus definitions to implement triggering, signal routing, counting, and timing. This chip is built into National Instruments' slot 0 controllers (MXI-2, VXIpc, and VXI-GPIB). There is no TIC on any VME controllers. To access the TIC, you can only use the VXI API that installs with NI-VXI driver, not through NI-VISA; also NI-VXI versions 3.0-3.2 do not support TIC triggers. These features are implemented to the NI-VXI version 3.3 and later. The GetTrigHandler function is used to return the address of the current trigger handler for the specified VXI trigger line; and SetTrigHandler replaces the current trigger handler for the specified VXI trigger lines with an alternate handler. Please refer to the NI-VXI API Help File for the input parameters and correct syntax for these functions. For more information about triggering in VXI, check out the link below.
