Does the PCI MXI-4 Require Power From the 3.3V PCI Power Rail? Hardware: PXI/CompactPCI>>Controllers>>PXI-8331
Problem: Does the PCI-8331 and PCI-8336 (MXI-4) Require Power from the 3.3V PCI Power Rail? Solution: In order to function, the PCI MXI-4 card draws power from both the 3.3V and 5V power rails supplied by the PCI slot. The PXI MXI-4 also draws power from the 3.3V and 5V power rails supplied by the chassis. Some older industrial PCI backplanes do not supply power at both voltage levels and are not compatible with MXI-4. For communication, MXI-4 is considered universal, meaning that it uses either the 3.3V or 5V rail from the PCI side. Communication on the PXI portion of MXI-4 depends on the chassis that is being used. National Instrument chassis are keyed to 5V lines, and therefore uses 5V to communicate.
