Can I Use Multiple PCI-7030 Boards with LabVIEW RT? Hardware: Multifunction DAQ (MIO)>>Real-Time>>PCI-7030/6030E
Problem: I want to use 4 of the PCI-7030 RealTime (RT) boards in my system, because I need 8 analog outputs for my control loops. Can I do this? Solution: LabVIEW RT has the ability to address 4 different RT boards, so yes, the functionality is there. However, you do need to be concerned with the added heat that is caused by adding more boards. Each board will generate heat, approximately equivalent to 15 Watts, so having 4 boards is the equivalent of putting a 60 Watt lightbulb in your computer case. If the fan in your computer case can dissipate heat efficiently enough to maintain an interior temperature of less than 70 degrees C, then the boards should work fine. The processor on the RT board needs to be kept below 85 degrees C, according to the chip heat specification. The fan on the board that cools the processor will keep the processor temperature below 85 degrees C as long as the ambient temperature inside the computer case is 70 degrees C or below.
