Multiple Counters and DIO with PCI-6602/PXI-6602 in Visual Basic

Primary Software: Measurement Studio>>Visual Basic Support
Primary Software Version: 6.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Hardware: Counter/Timers (TIO)>>Devices>>PCI-6602

Problem: Some counters on the PCI-6602/PXI-6602 appear to be disabled after writing to a digital line. If the device is reset or Visual Basic is shut down and restarted, the counters function properly again.

Solution: There are several steps you can take to resolve this issue:
  1. Make sure you are not writing to digital lines that are being used by the counters. The 6602 has a dedicated port for DIO (port 0) and other digital lines that are shared with the counters. The shared lines can be used for only one operation at a time.

  2. Measure the signal of the nonfunctioning counters at the appropriate pins of the 6602 to verify that there is a signal at the input pins. You also can move the signals from a counter that is not functioning to a counter that is functioning.

  3. You can use virtual channels for your DIO lines.
