Disabling Interrupt Request (IRQ) settings for National Instruments Hardware in Windows

Hardware: Legacy DAQ Devices>>Digital I/O>>PC-DIO-96

Problem: How do I disable the Interrupt Request (IRQ) settings for my National Instruments hardware on a Windows machine?

Solution: When using Windows 98 (or earlier), you can set the IRQ to "Not Assigned." Follow these steps:
  1. Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties.
  2. Choose the Hardware tab and then click on the Device Manager button.
  3. Right-click on the hardware product you wish to disable and choose Properties.
  4. On the Properties page of the specific piece of hardware, select the Resources tab and edit the Interrupt Request number assigned to the hardware.
You can also change the settings for National Instruments' hardware in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). Open MAX, expand the Devices and Interfaces tab, right-click on the specific hardware you want to modify settings for and select Properties. Choose the System tab, where you will be able to change the Interrupt Request.

However, these changes are not available under Windows 2000 and XP. There is one specific work-around you can attempt. Restart your computer, and before your computer starts to boot the operating system, you can select to change BIOS settings (typically by pressing F10 or F2). Inside these settings, you can set the Interrupt Request number and also change the setting of an Interrupt Request for a specific device from enabled to disabled.

NOTE: This will not work on every machine, as it depends on the BIOS of your computer.
