Why Do I Get Error -2147467259 When Compiling an FPGA VI?

Problem:
I am compiling a LabVIEW FPGA VI and I get:

Error -2147467259 occurred at EIOResourceTree_TargetItem_InsertSubTree.vi:1

Why am I getting this error and what can I do to fix it?

Solution:
This error is known to occur in LabVIEW 8.6 when compiling a VI that references a DMA FIFO with a '&' in its name.  The problem only shows up when using target-to-host or host-to-target FIFOs, not target-scoped FIFOs.  As soon as the '&' is removed from the name, the VI compilation should get past this error.
