Downgrade Problems With cDAQ and TEDs Bitstreams in NI-DAQmx 8.1 or 8.3

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-DAQmx
Primary Software Version: 8.3
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Hardware: CompactDAQ

Problem:

I am using a cDAQ chassis and either downgraded from NI-DAQmx 8.5 or later or am trying to import a Measurement and Automation configuration exported from NI-DAQmx 8.5 or later. However when I do so the configuration seems to be corrupt or will not import successfully. How do I import my configuration or downgrade from NI-DAQmx 8.5 or later to NI-DAQmx 8.1 or 8.3?

Solution:

When downgrading to NI-DAQmx 8.1 or NI-DAQmx 8.3 from DAQmx 8.5 or later on a system that has a cDAQ chassis with a module that is not supported in DAQmx 8.1 or DAQmx 8.3, the cDAQ chassis configuration will become corrupted.

Workaround: Delete the cDAQ chassis in Measurement and Automation Explorer and reconfigure it.

The following problems will occur when importing an nce file created in DAQmx 8.5 or later to a system with DAQmx 8.1 or DAQmx 8.3 installed:

  1. When importing an nce file containing a cDAQ chassis with a module that is not supported in the DAQmx 8.3 release, MAX will indicate that "No importable items" were found in the file.

Workaround: Use an ini file instead of the nce file, or do not include the cDAQ chassis in the nce file.

  2. When importing a DAQmx 8.5 nce file containing a TEDS bitstream associated with a physical channel, the TEDS bitstreams will not be included as an importable item.

Workaround: Export the configuration to an ini file and import it on the target system.
