Error Message When Opening Excel After Upgrading to Measure 2.0

Problem: I just uninstalled Measure 1.x from my computer so that I could install version 2.0. After installing Measure 2.0, I opened Excel, and upon opening I received the following error message:

"A document with the name 'daq.xla' (or 'gpib.xla' or 'serial.xla') is already open. You cannot open two documents with the same name, even if the documents are in different folders. To open the second document, either close the document that's currently open, or rename one of the documents."

What do I do about this?

Solution: Sometimes Excel will mistakenly try to open up the old Measure 1.x add-in files. In order to fix this problem, go to the "Tools" pull-down menu and choose "Add-ins". You must deselect ALL of the Measure add-ins listed (even the new ones). This means you must deselect the following items (some of the items may not be present if you only installed some of the Measure add-ins):
  • Daq (You might get a "Cannot find add-in" message...just click "Yes" when prompted)
  • Gpib (You might get a "Cannot find add-in" message...just click "Yes" when prompted)
  • Serial (You might get a "Cannot find add-in" message...just click "Yes" when prompted)
  • Daqerror (You might get a "Cannot find add-in" message...just click "Yes" when prompted)
  • Convert (You might get a "Cannot find add-in" message...just click "Yes" when prompted)
  • Measure DAQ Add-in
  • Measure GPIB Add-in
  • Measure Serial Add-in
  • Measure to CW Converter
After you've deselected all these items, exit Excel then re-start Excel. Now, go back into the "Add-ins" window and re-select the new Measure add-ins:
  • Measure DAQ Add-in
  • Measure GPIB Add-in
  • Measure Serial Add-in
  • Measure to CW Converter
Now, you should no longer receive any errors when opening Excel on subsequent occasions.
