How Can I Limit What Resources Show Up in VISA Drop Down Control?

Primary Software: Driver Software>>NI-VISA
Primary Software Version: 4.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem:
I am creating an application that will have the ability to control my instruments via NI-VISA. This program will be operated by other users, so I want to limit what resources they can use. How can I do this?

Solution:
One way to limit the resource an application has access to is to use a constant instead of a control. This will disallow any user from choosing an item that should not be available.

If the program requires that the resource be selected by the user, you can use the resources that are available in the drop down menu. In order to utilize this, right-click the VISA Resource Name Control and select I/O Name Filter...

Use the General Tab to define the use of VISA Alias' and/or limit it to what type of connection to use.

By selecting the Advanced Tab, you can use more specific values to limit what is shown. In this section you can also select resources from a different PC if wanted.

Another option to limit the selectable items in your VISA Resource Name Control is to use a Combo Box, detailed in KnowledgeBase 3DPGCE8L, also linked below.
