NI PXIe-5122 giving error -50550 or -228858

Hardware: Modular Instruments>>High-Speed Digitizers (Scopes)>>PXIe-5122

Problem:
I am using an NI PXIe-5122 express digitizer to acquire data. I am receiving one of the following errors:
  1. On occasion while acquiring data I have had Error -50550 pop up, which states " A synchronization object was not acquired within the time limit. Operation could not be completed as specified."

Once this error occurs I have to reset my board or restart my computer to use the board again.

  2. Self-Calibrate occasionally fails giving error -228858, but if I retry it will often pass.
How can I prevent these errors from occurring?

Solution:
If you are seeing one or both of these errors, you may need to upgrade the firmware on your NI PXIe-5122. If you have a revision prior to 1.0.1f2 (June 2008) then you should update your firmware.
  • Determining your Firmware Revision
You can query the firmware revision of your NI PXIe-5122 using the niScope Revision Query VI or the niScope_revision_query function shown below.  See the NI High-Speed Digitizers Help for more info on how to use these functions.

These functions will return the firmware revision in the format "x.x.xfx", where x is a decimal number.

Alternatively, you can run the firmware updater described below.  After selecting your NI PXIe-5122, it will display the firmware revision and revision date.  You will have the choice to Update Firmware or Exit.
  • Updating NI PXIe-5122 Firmware
To update the firmware, run the NI PXIe-5122 Firmware Updater utility.  This utility can be downloaded and saved to the file of your choice from the attachments below. If you have installed NI-SCOPE 3.5  the utility will already be installed on your system under Program File\National Instruments\DAQ\FPGAfiles\NI 5122 directory.  When you run the file, you should see a window like the image below

Simply select the NI PXIe-5122 you want to update under Device, and click Update Firmware.  Once the application has finished running, you will be required to power down your computer and PXIe chassis to complete the firmware update.

Note:  If you have the updated the firmware on your digitizer and still see the error, please contact National Instruments for support.
