Why Can't I Select the Edit Footprint Button When I Open the Properties Dialog Box of a Component in My Multisim Schematic?

Problem: This issue can arise when you open a Multisim schematic created by another user. If the schematic contains a component that is not in your master, corporate or user database, the
Edit Footprint button in the component properties dialog box will be grayed out by default.
Solution: Perform the following steps to acquire access to a greyed-out
Edit Footprint button:
- Select the component in the schematic.
- Right-click and select Save Component to DB…
- In the Select Destination Family Name dialog box, select either the Corporate Database or User Database in the Family Tree list.
- Select the appropriate family name (for example Analog).
- Click on the Add Family button.
- Enter the name of the family in the New Family Name dialog box.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the OK button in the Select Destination Family Name dialog box.
- A dialog box appears indicating the component is now saved to the database. Click the OK button.
To replace the component selected in
Step 1, with a new instance of the same component from the database, perform the following steps:
- Select the component (as done in Step 1).
- Right-click and select Replace Components…
- Navigate to the component in the Component Browser and replace the component.
You now have access to the
Edit Footprint button.
