I open the properties dialog box for a component in my Multisim schematic however the Edit Footprint button cannot be selected.
Primary Software: Electronics Workbench>>Multisim
Primary Software Version: N/A
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A
Problem: This issue can arise when you open a Multisim schematic created by another user. If the schematic contains a component that
is not in your master, corporate or user database, Multisim will by default grey-out the
Edit Footprint button in the component properties dialog box.
Solution: To acquire access to a greyed-out Edit Footprint button, you can:
- Select the component in the schematic.
- Right-click and select Save Component to DB…
- In the Select Destination Family Name dialog box, select either the Corporate Database or User Database in the Family Tree list.
- Select the appropriate family name (for example Analog).
- Click on the Add Family button.
- Enter the name of the family in the New Family Name dialog box.
- Click on the OK button.
- Click on the OK button in the Select Destination Family Name dialog box.
- A dialog box appears indicating the component is now saved to the database. Click on the OK button.
Replace the component selected in step 1, with a new instance of the same component from the database.
- Select the component (as done in step 1).
- Right-click and select Replace Components…
- Navigate to the component in the Component Browser and replace the component.
You now have access to the Edit Footprint button.
