Multiple Ethernet Instruments with Multiple Ethenet/Ports on My PCHardware: GPIB>>ASICs/OEM Products>>NET2280
Problem: I have two Ethernet devices that I'd like to communicate with, such as an ENET-GPIB, but I want to use the two existing Ethernet ports on my computer and not a hub, router, or switch. I've configured my desired static IP addresses but whenever I use Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) to find my devices, only the default port is seen. Solution: It's important to have the Ethernet devices and Ethernet ports setup with different subnets for this type of hardware setup to work properly. If both Ethernet devices and ports are setup on the same subnet, when MAX searches on the default Ethernet port automatically, it will search on the default port's subnet and find the instrument. MAX will only detect this subnet and will not recognize the second port. If the ports are setup with different subnets, this lets MAX know that it has multiple ports to look on and it will discover both devices. For more explanation on how to check default port settings or how MAX recognizes devices, please look through the related links section below.
