How do I assign a footprint to a virtual component in Multisim? Primary Software: Electronics Workbench>>MultisimPrimary Software Version: 8.2.5 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: Electronics Workbench>>Multicap, Electronics Workbench>>Ultiboard
Problem: In Multisim, virtual components do not automatically have a footprint associated with them. This is because virtual components are modeled theoretically rather than as a "real" device that can be purchased. Therefore, the component does not have a natural footprint. There are situations, however, in which a designer is satisfied with using virtual components in the schematic and would like to assign a footprint to it so that it can be transferred to a full PCB design. Solution: The footprint assigned to the virtual component is only valid for the symbol that is placed upon the schematic. This is not a change that can be saved to a database, and therefore the procedure below must be repeated each time this component requires a footprint:
The footprint is now associated with this virtual component. Please Note:The Spreadsheet View is not available in all versions/tiers of Multisim/Multicap. In the situation that you do not have this feature you must create a new component 'for layout only' to completely replace the component in the schematic. Related Links: Attachments:
