Can the PXI-40xx be Used to Control SCXI in a Combo Chassis? Hardware: Modular Instruments>>Digital Multimeters (DMM)>>PXI-4071, Modular Instruments>>Digital Multimeters (DMM)>>PXI-4072, Modular Instruments>>Digital Multimeters (DMM)>>PXI-4070
Problem: I recently received a new NI PXI DMM and I am not able to configure the SCXI modules in my system using MAX. Solution: The PXI Systems Alliance (pxisa.org) recently defined a modification for PXI modules. Modified PXI modules provide future compatibility for systems incorporating PCI Express signaling in PXI. Previous versions of these modules had two large PXI connectors. In the modified PXI Express compatible DMM, the top connector has been replaced with a smaller connector. You may notice a series of regularly spaced holes in the printed circuit board that are not used by the smaller connector. As of August 2006, all PXI-407x devices ship as a PXI Express compatible DMM. PXI Express compatible digital multimeters do not preserve the local bus communication ability. Systems currently using a local bus configuration such as PXI/SCXI combination chassis, will no longer be capable of SCXI control and triggering via the backplane using PXI Express compatible digital multimeters. Workarounds: PXI-1010, PXI-1050 In this instance, National Instruments recommends the NI SCXI-1357/1358/1359 High-Voltage Backplane Assembly Kit. PXI-1011, PXI-1052
