Why Does MATRIXx Reports that the License File has Wrong HostID?

Primary Software: MATRIXx
Primary Software Version: 7.0
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: N/A

Problem: When I run MATRIXx it reports that the hostID is incorrect. What could be wrong?

Solution: First verify that the hostID has not changed. Run lmhostid to get the hostid from your system (or refer to the MATRIXx Administrators guide or the KnowledgeBase linked below on alternative ways of getting your hostid). Compare it to the hostid that is given in the error message. If the component that is used to get the hostID has changed then the system will have a new hostid. For example you may have changed the ethernet card in the system.

On Windows 2000 and XP you must have a valid ethernet connection when using the MAC address as a hostid. Windows has a feature called Media Sense that detects that the ethernet cable is unplugged and unconfigures the card, which means the license manager can not find it. If you run lmhostid at this point the hostid will be reported as "ffffffff". If your computer is not always connected to the network you should use a the disk serial number as your hostid instead. This is not a problem on Windows 98 since the card will stay configured even when there is not a network connection. The Microsoft website contains a KnowledgeBase on how to turn off Media Sensing. See link below.

If the two hostIDs match it may indicate a problem in the type of license file that was generated. Please contact National Instruments to resolve the issue. Contact information is on the MATRIXx website, linked below.
