Plug and Play Board Undetected by Windows 2000

Hardware: GPIB>>Plug-in Controllers>>PCI-GPIB

Problem:
I have a plug and play GPIB board that I have installed in my Windows 2000 computer, but it is not being detected. What can I do to fix this?

Solution:
If you have plugged in your board before installing the NI-488.2 driver, then your board will not be properly registered by Windows 2000. Since the NI-488.2 driver acts as the interface between your GPIB board and the operating system (and any GPIB programs), Windows 2000 will not be able to associate the board with its corresponding driver, unless that driver is already present on the system.

To fix the problem, complete the following steps:

  1. Shut down your system.

  2. Remove the board from your computer.

  3. Reboot your system once with the board removed.

  4. Install the NI-488.2 driver.

  5. Shut down your system again.

  6. Install the board, preferably in a different slot.

  7. Reboot your system.

  8. If you do not see a "New Hardware Found" message, then repeat the preceding steps again.
