Where can I find more information about the LabWindows/CVI Real-Time Module?

Q. What real-time targets are supported by the LabWindows/CVI Real-Time Module?

A. The LabWindows/CVI Real-Time Module currently supports the following targets:

  • National Instruments real-time PXI controllers with the PharLap ETS RTOS installed
  • Desktop PC running as a real-time PharLap ETS target
The LabWindows/CVI Real-Time Module is NOT supported on the following targets:
  • PCI RT plugin boards such as the PCI-7041
  • FieldPoint
  • Compact FieldPoint
  • CompactRIO
  • Compact Vision System

Q. What hardware driver libraries are supported by the LabWindows/CVI Real-Time Module?

A. Refer to the National Instruments Hardware Libraries Supported by the LabWindows/CVI Real-Time Module KnowledgeBase.


Q. What LabWindows/CVI functions are supported in real-time applications?

A. Refer to the Using LabWindows/CVI Libraries in Real-Time DLLs and LabWindows/CVI Functions Supported in Real-Time Applications help topics located in the LabWindows/CVI Help.

Q. Is the LabVIEW Real-Time Module needed to run LabWindows/CVI Real-Time Module?

A. No. Starting with the LabWindows/CVI Real-Time Module 8.0.1, the LabVIEW Real-Time Module is no longer needed. Refer to the
LabWindows/CVI 8.0.1 Requires the LabWindows/CVI Real-Time Module to Downloads DLLs Directly to Real-Time Targets KnowledgeBase.

You can still download DLLs you create in LabWindows/CVI via LabVIEW. Refer to the Creating and Downloading DLLs via LabVIEW help topic.

Q. Are DataSocket and Shared Variables supported?

A. There is no support for DataSocket in LabWindows/CVI Real-Time. The LabWindows/CVI 8.1 Real-Time Module introduced support for Shared Variables.

Q. Are the multithreading functions supported?

A. Yes, all functions in the the Multithreading class (part of the Utility Library) are supported.

Q. Is Remote Debugging supported?

A. Yes, you can use remote debugging to debug DLLs built in LabWindows/CVI that are running on a real-time target.
