DataSocket I/O Step Removed from VBAI 3.6

Problem:
Why is the DataSocket I/O step missing from Vision Builder for Automated Inspection (VBAI) 3.6?

Solution:
The DataSocket I/O step has been intentionally removed from VBAI 3.6. You can and are encouraged to implement the same functionality using shared variables. These can be accessed in Tools»Variable Manager...

VBAI 3.6 still supports the step, but does not allow users to access it. Therefore scripts written in VBAI 3.5 that contain the DataSocket I/O step will still open and function properly in VBAI 3.6, but users cannot create new scripts containing the DataSocket I/O step from VBAI 3.6.
