Changes with the Options Dialog Box in LabVIEW 8.2

Primary Software:
Primary Software Version: 8.2
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>LabVIEW Full Development System, LabVIEW Development Systems>>LabVIEW Professional Development System

As explained in the LabVIEW Upgrade Notes, in LabVIEW 8.2 several settings in the Options dialog box are no longer available. What happened to these settings, and how can I change them?

Several options in the Options dialog box were added in previous versions of LabVIEW to help with performance issues that no longer exist in LabVIEW 8.2. Generally, you should not need these options, which is why they do not appear in the Options dialog box in LabVIEW 8.2 or later. However, you can add configuration tokens to the LabVIEW.ini file to retain the functionality of the dialog box options.

Front Panel Page

  • Override system default function key settings —Add UseAllFKeys=False to the .ini file. The default is True.
  • Use smooth updates during draw—Add offscreenUpdates=False to the .ini file. The default is True on Windows and Linux and False on Mac OS.

Note: If you have controls overlapped with other objects, their display rate might be slower. The reason for this is that if a control is partially obscured, more work must be done to redraw that area of the screen. Add the above configuration token if the front panel flickers when controls overlap.

Block Diagram Page

  • Show wiring guides—Add showWireGuides=False to the .ini file. The default is True.

Performance and Disk Page

The Performance and Disk page no longer exists, including the following items:
  • Check available disk space during launch—Add checkAvailDiskSpace=False to the .ini file. The default is True.

    Related tokens:
    • To set the minimum KB for aborting:
abortMin=<#KB>, where #KB is the number of KB. The default is 500.
    • To set the maximum KB for aborting:
warnMin=<#KB>, where #KB is the number of KB. The default is 2000.
  • Run with multiple threads—Add ESys.StdNParallel=0 to the .ini file to disable multithreaded LabVIEW.

Note: Priority use in single-threaded and multithreaded applications gives fairly similar results with the same VIs. However, subtle timing differences might exist. If you distribute VIs to customers who run a different operating system, consider testing the applications under those conditions. Make a multithreaded application behave as a single-threaded application by adding the configuration token above.

Paths Page

  • Library Directory—Add libdir=<path> to the .ini file.

Environment Page

  • Use abridged menus—Add UseAbridgedMenus=True to the .ini file.

Note: In LabVIEW 8.0 and earlier, LabVIEW uses abridged menus. In LabVIEW 8.2, LabVIEW does not use abridged menus.
