MAX Hangs on Startup When Used in Conjunction with Virtual Grid Management Applications Primary Software: Utility Software>>Measurement & Automation ExplorerPrimary Software Version: 3.0 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: Other NI Software>>VI Logger
Problem: I have just installed the latest version of DAQmx and MAX hangs when I try to open it. VI Logger also hangs when I try to open it. I have un-installed and re-installed the DAQmx driver and these applications still hang on startup. The splash screen does not go away and the GUI never loads onto the screen. Must use Task Manager to stop application. Solution: The problem occurs when MAX is used in conjunction with a virtual grid management application, such as Acer GridVista. Acer GridVista is a utility that divides the screen real estate into virtual grids. The idea is that on widescreen (or other high resolution) monitor you have the ability to split the screen into virtual grids so you can run many applications in the foreground at the same time. Each GUI application is assigned a particular grid. The issue is with the API GUI calls that MAX uses. Other older legacy applications also do not work well with GridVista. During startup MAX does not get automatically resized to the correct grid and just hangs. Some high resolution laptops come pre-installed with GridVista. The utility must be disabled for MAX to function properly. To disable GridVista, right-click on the GridVista icon in the toolbar and select EXIT. It can also be disabled when the computer boots up by removing it from the Startup folder or editing the Startup Applications in msconfig.
