What am I getting Error 1142 with Datasockets and my Real-Time Target?

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Real-Time Module
Primary Software Version: 8.2
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Other NI Software>>DataSocket

Problem:
I am trying to communicate via datasockets between my host computer and my real-time target. When I try to run my datasocket program on my target, it gives me error 1142: Datasocket Open. What is causing this error and how do I fix it?

Solution:
Error 1142 Datasocket Open can occur in two scenarios.

The first occurrence is if you do not have Datasocket for LabVIEW Real-Time (DS-LVRT) installed on the target. To check if you have DS-LVRT installed on your target, open up Measurement and Automation Explorer and locate your Remote System. Expand the Software Tab and verify that you have Datasocket for LabVIEW Real-Time version x.x. If you do not have the software installed, simply right-click on the Software Tab under your Remote System and click Add/Remove Software. Datasockets for LabVIEW Real-Time is bundled when you install LabVIEW Real-Time on your host. To install DS-LVRT on your target, click the DS-LVRT gray box in the LVRT Software Wizard and Select Install the feature.

The second occurrence is if you do not have your DS Server configured correctly. Verify that your DS Server is configured correctly on your host computer by going to Start»Programs»National Instruments»Datasocket»Datasocket Server Manager. Make sure that you give the correct permissions to your Real-Time target by adding the target to your Permission Group. Finally, if you would like the data items to be created even when no DataSocket is connected to the items, add the items to the Predefined List.
