What am I getting "Error 1142: Datasocket Open" with Datasockets and my Real-Time Target?

Primary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>Real-Time Module
Primary Software Version: 8.2
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: Other NI Software>>DataSocket

Problem:
I am trying to communicate via datasockets between my host computer and my real-time target. When I try to run my datasocket program on my target, it gives me Error 1142: Datasocket Open. What is causing this error and how do I fix it?

Solution:
Error 1142: Datasocket Open can occur in two scenarios. First, if Datasocket for LabVIEW Real-Time (DS-LVRT) is not installed on the target, and second, if the DS Server is configured incorrectly.

Follow the steps below to check if DS-LVRT is installed on the target system.
  1. Open Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) and locate Remote System.

  2. Expand the Software Tab and verify that Datasocket for LabVIEW Real-Time version x.x is installed.

  3. If the software is not installed, simply right-click on the Software Tab under Remote System and select Add/Remove Software. Datasockets for LabVIEW Real-Time is bundled when you install LabVIEW Real-Time on your host.

  4. To install DS-LVRT on your target, click the DS-LVRT gray box in the LVRT Software Wizard and Select Install the feature
If DS-LVRT is installed properly, verify that your DS Server is configured correctly on your host computer.
  1. Navigate to Start»Programs»National Instruments»Datasocket»Datasocket Server Manager.

  2. Check that the correct permissions are set for the Real-Time target by adding the target to the Permission Group
Note:  If the application calls for data items to be created even when no datasocket is connected, add the items to the Predefined List.
