How Can I Prevent the Shared Variable Engine from Starting Automatically?

Primary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>LabVIEW Base Package
Primary Software Version: 8.5
Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A
Secondary Software: LabVIEW Modules>>LabVIEW DSC Module

Problem:
How can I prevent the Shared Variable Engine from starting automatically every time I start my computer?

Solution:
By default, the Shared Variable engine is configured to run as a system service. When started, the Shared Variable engine will run all deployed processes that are set to the enabled state. You can view a list of currently deployed processes by selecting Tools»Shared Variable»Variable Manager from LabVIEW. From the Variable Manager, you can stop processes as well as remove individual variables.

You can configure the Shared Variable engine to not start automatically in Windows as follows:

Windows 7
  1. Log in as an administrator or as a user with administrative privileges.
  2. Select Start»Control Panel»System and Security»Administrative Tools»Services.
  3. Right-click on the National Instruments Variable Engine entry and choose Properties.
  4. Set the "Startup Type" to Manual, and then click the OK button.
Windows 2000/XP
  1. Log in as an administrator or as a user with administrative privileges.
  2. Select Start»Settings»Control Panel»Administrative Tools»Services.
  3. Right-click on the National Instruments Variable Engine entry and choose Properties.
  4. Set the "Startup Type" to Manual, and then click the OK button.
The next time your computer starts the Shared Variable engine will not start automatically. You can start it manually by using the Variable Manager tool mentioned above.
